MEANINGFUL MOMENTS

What if a teacher could design a lesson that he/she knew would shape how a student viewed their school experience 20 years later? What if a manager knew exactly how to turn an employee’s moment of failure into a moment of growth? What if you had a better sense of how to create memories that matter for your kids? In this week’s episode of Just The Right Book Podcast, Roxanne welcomes Dan Heath, co-author of The Power of Moments, in which he and brother Chip explore why certain moments influence us so strongly and offer insight into why certain brief experiences can jolt us and elevate us and change us – in our life and our work. Roxanne says she has taken to heart some of the lessons learned, has had her management team at RJ Julia Booksellers read the book, and has reshaped her employees’ first-day experiences based on the book’s anecdote about John Deere. Take a moment to listen in.

LOOK WHAT HAPPENED

The book tour of Hillary Clinton this past week made a stop at RJ Julia Booksellers’ new Middletown, CT store on the campus of Wesleyan University. Lines began some four hours before the formal signing for her book, What Happened, in which she gives her personal account of the 2016 presidential election.

THE BOOK THAT CHANGED THEIR LIVES

Ok, so Just The Right Book Podcast has taken the liberty of assuming that everybody has a book that changed their lives. That’s why Roxanne asks every guest near the end of their interview to provide such a book. To make for easy listening, we’ve compiled all the responses from famous authors and book industry people and put them all into one episode. We’ve also added a few “life-changers” from our podcast team here at JTRB Podcast.

“MADNESS” AND A WHOLE LOT MORE ON DECK

Stay tuned for some of these incredible authors on upcoming episodes of Just The Right Book Podcast: Matthew Weiner (of “Mad Men” fame), Alice Hoffman, Anne Nelson, Isabelle Allende, Rabbi Naomi Levy, and Beverly Tatum.
